The following SOVIL members are on the committee.

Chairman - Jeremy Browne:

Jeremy is a partner in a small high street firm of solicitors providing advice in a range of areas to its clients.

Jeremy specializes in family law, housing, crime and undertakes some other High Court and County Court litigation.

Secretary - Genna O'Connor:

Genna originally qualified as a health economist with a broad background in medical research and project management in the private healthcare sector, before pursuing a career in law. She has always had an interest in the interaction between law and medicine. Genna attended the College of Law and completed the Graduate Diploma in Law. She then attended the Inns of Court School of Law (now City Law School) where she completed the Bar Vocational Course. Genna was Called to the Bar in October 2009. In September 2010 she completed the LLM in Professional Legal Skills.

Genna has completed a number of work placements in various law firms and large companies and has worked in the city in the areas of employment law, personal injury, professional indemnity and insurance related claims. In her spare time Genna likes to keep active by tandem cycling, running, swimming, ballroom dancing and enjoys the musicals.

Treasurer - Brian Allan:

Brian lives in London. He qualified as a solicitor in 1983. For the first two years after qualification he worked in the commercial property department of a private practice firm in Nottingham. Since 1985 he has worked in the legal departments of local authorities in London, specializing in the areas of property, housing and local government law.

Phil Callus:

Phil Callus studied Law at the University of Bristol where he obtained a First Class Honours. After completing his LPC, also in Bristol, Phil trained as a Solicitor at Allen & Overy, London, where he qualified in 2001. Upon qualification, Phil practiced as a Solicitor in Allen & Overy's Communications, Media and Technology (CMT) group. In this role, Phil advised clients, ranging from large corporates and financial institutions to charities and government agencies, on a range of regulatory frameworks including e-commerce, data protection, regulation of investigatory powers (monitoring phone calls and emails), distance selling, direct marketing, electronic signatures, commercial agents regulations, official secrets legislation, and various other aspects of IT law. Phil also advised on commercial contracts generally, arrangements involving on-line trading, and on the exploitation and protection of intellectual property. After seven years at Allen & Overy, Phil now practices as a Solicitor in the public sector where, working for an agency affiliated to the Government Legal Service, he advises on a range of matters.

Sharon Grennan:

Sharon trained as a solicitor at a City law firm. She qualified in 2002 specialising in financial institutions disputes. With five years post qualification experience, Sharon qualified as a solicitor advocate and completed an LLM in banking law and financial regulation at the London School of Economics. She now works in a non-fee earning role as a professional support lawyer specialising in banking litigation and contentious regulatory work at another City law firm.

Mark Higgins:

Mark graduated from st John’s College, Oxford in 2004, taking a 1st class M.A. in English law with French law. He went on to attend the Inns of Court school of Law (now the City Law school) and was called to the bar in 2005 as a major scholar of the Inner temple.

Mark practices out of Harcourt chambers in the Middle temple and has done so since joining them as a pupil in October 2005. He specialises in family law, contract, negligence and property but also has a degree of experience in other areas of civil work. Among his professional memberships he is a member of the Inner temple’s Inclusivity and Diversity Panel. He also participates in advocacy training for law students.

In his spare time Mark is a keen cricketer and follows a number of other sports. He enjoys good wine, history, politics and British comedy.

Nick Lambert:

Nick practices in the area of discrimination law and human rights, having qualified in employment law. Nick holds an undergraduate and a masters degree in law. Nick has been partially sighted since birth.

Timothy Pryke:

Tim lives in Suffolk and since qualifying as a solicitor in 1980 has specialized in litigation. He retired from full time practice as a partner in 1997 due to failing sight, since when he has worked on a self-employed consultancy basis for a number of local firms. In recent years he has concentrated on family law work and in 2005 trained as a Collaborative Lawyer. He is happy to share his wealth of experience especially with other disabled lawyers who are thinking of taking the brave path towards self employment. His other interests include passions for angling, soccer and horse riding and on several occasions he has served on public bodies representing those particular causes.
