The Society of

| Contact Us | The Society of Visually
Impaired Lawyers was founded to create a group in which blind and
partially sighted solicitors and barristers could exchange ideas, share
information, campaign on causes of mutual interest and provide an
opportunity for support and networking between fellow professionals. The Society has members in private practice, local and central government service and academia. SoVIL provides support and encouragement to new entrants to the profession as well as providing information and resources for established lawyers. We ensure that the RNIB maintains a library of Braille and recorded titles of law textbooks and important statutes. We have a mailing list which all members are encouraged to join, the purpose of which is to provide a forum for sharing ideas, professional concerns and information about resources. We have also recently persuaded TNAUK to produce the Times Law section electronically and this is E-mailed to members who subscribe to it. The Society is run by a committee which meets quarterly in addition to our A.G.M. Members of the committee involve themselves in projects of interest to the members, such as ensuring that the E-Conveyancing project being created by the Land Registry is accessible to blind and partially sighted users.
